Harm reduction substance misuse is a wide encompassing approach in public health promotion policies. Its primary goal is to spread the awareness of the potential dangers of the harmful adverse reactions from dangerous and illegal drugs while consequently helping to reduce these associated effects. This is not the only real effective strategy against dangerous drug use and addiction, but it also serves as a powerful concurrent approach alongside control of the distribution of regulated varieties and stopping the trade of illicit drug varieties.

In a sense, harm reduction substance misuse consists of various strategies that seek to minimize the side effects of not just the act but all potential high risk activities that go with drug use. Many do agree with the intent of these approaches but a good number of concerned groups find fault in such strategies.
